In practice there are no border checks between the two sides of the island. French side entry rules follow France; Dutch side follows the Netherlands. Most Western nationalities can visit both sides freely.

Maho Beach is directly adjacent to Princess Juliana Airport's runway—planes land metres overhead creating an extraordinary spectacle. Jet blast warnings are posted on the beach fence. It's one of the Caribbean's most unique experiences.

The French side uses the Euro (EUR); the Dutch side uses the Netherlands Antillean guilder (ANG) though USD is the practical currency across the whole island. Cards accepted widely.
