🇨🇳 China eSIM
China is both the world's oldest continuous civilisation and one of its most rapidly changing societies — a country where the Great Wall winds across mountains above ancient imperial capitals, terracotta armies guard 2,000-year-old tombs, and bullet trains sprint between futuristic megacities at 350km/h. The landscapes are extraordinary: Guilin's karst peaks rising from mist-shrouded rivers, Zhangjiajie's towering sandstone pillars (which inspired Avatar), the technicolour terraces of Yunnan, and the Tibetan plateau's vast sky. Note: many international apps and services are blocked in China — plan VPN arrangements and offline content in advance.

Frequently asked questions
No — these are blocked by the Great Firewall. Download a VPN before arriving (much harder to install from within China). Alternatives: Baidu Maps (Chinese), WeChat (messaging), Weibo (social). A VPN lets you access your usual apps.
Most nationalities require a visa. However, China has expanded visa-free access to an increasing number of countries — check the current list as it changes frequently. Transit visas allow short stays without a full visa in some cities.
WeChat Pay and Alipay dominate; many places don't accept cards. International tourists can now link foreign Visa/Mastercard to WeChat Pay and Alipay. Cash (RMB) remains a backup option. Download WeChat before you arrive.
Tibet requires a separate Tibet Travel Permit in addition to a Chinese visa. These are only issued through licensed Chinese tour agencies and require joining at least a partially guided tour. Independent travel in Tibet is not permitted.
